We will work from 9:30 am – 1:00 pm helping our neighbors with a very special shopping trip.
The Mercado is a charitable food bank that operates as a grocery store. It is a Gleaners outpost near Mexican Town with an immigrant target market. A family member shops by appointment and may fill a shopping cart with anything in the store. Limits on how much food in each category may be taken are set to make it fair for small families or large ones. Volunteers and friends from GPMC assist with interpreting these rules, re-stocking shelves and getting food into cars. Spanish or Arabic as a second language is a plus – but it is not required to help.
The van will depart the GPMC parking lot at 9 am sharp. Lunch in Mexican Village and a quick stop for take-home treats at the Mexican Bakery is usually chosen by the van group.
OR You can meet us at Mercado (2826 Bagley, 48216) if you want to end the day at 1 pm.
The sign up sheet for the workday (van ride or drive separately) is at the front desk in the church lobby. Or email Mitch Groters to let him know you want to come.
We are limited to 10 volunteers so please sign up soon!
