The Reason Behind our Initiative: People living in area code 313 (Wayne County) have been among the most affected in Michigan, documenting half of the state’s deaths from COVID-19. Unemployment was at nearly 50% in the Detroit area in June 2020 when Governor Whitmer moved Michigan to Stage Four of the “Michigan Safe Start Plan”. Although many businesses, such as automotive, were able to reopen, there were fewer jobs available to residents of Wayne County.
Members of Grosse Pointe Memorial Church are joining other Mathew 25 church communities in the Detroit Metropolitan area to make a difference in peoples’ lives in our 313-area code. Matthew 25 Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) groups seek to serve people who are hungry, oppressed, imprisoned or poor.
Our 313 Calling Vision Statement: With the help of those who live in our 313-area code and others, we intend to perform 313,000 acts of kindness, large and small, over the next year. We are calling upon those who live in Southeastern Michigan to join us in performing random and intentional acts of kindness.
Reporting Individual Acts of Kindness: Have you done an act of kindness on your own? Made a meal for someone? Went grocery shopping for a loved one who can’t go out? Gave a friend a ride? If you would like to report an act of kindness you performed on your own, please fill out this form.
