Outreach 2020 – A Trip Down Memory Lane

Sharing the Good News.  GPMC is a congregation that LOVES to work together.  We have an abiding commitment to serving neighbors near and far.   Thank you, Outreach Council as well as our friends and partners who had to figure out so many new ways to serve.  Here’s a recap:

Pre-Covid days.

When we donated to our friends in Cuba, went on the mission trip to a church in Cuba, and packed 75,000 meals for Kids Coalition Against Hunger, we had no idea how much our lives would change.

Covid emergency.

As our state was hit so hard, we followed the guidelines, we prayed for each other, we stayed home, we made masks, we focused on hunger donations, and found ways to honor and support health care workers.

Continuing needs and a return to hands-on work.

We continued our GPMC hands-on tradition by working outside, unpacking a Forgotten Harvest truck at St John’s PC, monthly.  We helped clean up a neighborhood with Life Remodeled, packed Thanksgiving meals with Jefferson Avenue, served with Habitat to refurbish a home in the Morningside neighborhood, and tutored  students via Zoom.  At year end, we made our first foray to work indoors together, to honor our Crossroads tradition of serving a meal by packing a carry out lunch for 380.

Making a difference through donations.

We helped Cass Community Social Services feed the homeless with a mountain of donated items and collected food, provided some electronics for students, and contributed at Christmastime through Alternative Gifts and Angel Tree.  Donations for hunger offerings were UP in 2020.

The Outreach Council faithfully met via Zoom each month to continue our practice of contributing to partner organizations locally, nationally and worldwide.

We know we are supported by ALL GPMC members through pledges and we are grateful for that support.

That was a lot of “good news” in 2020.

Please, continue to check out the Outreach pages AND the 313 Calling pages to see how you might contribute in 2021.

We will heal. We will dream new dreams, we will find new ways to serve the Lord.
