I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. John 4
Grosse Pointe Memorial Church has lots of exciting programs available for youth. Due to the ongoing pandemic, our programs look a bit different this year. We will be offering youth fellowships, small groups, and a mission project.
Grosse Pointe Memorial Church has three youth groups:
We are blessed with vibrant and engaged youth groups here at Memorial. This year, youth groups will continue to meet regularly on Tuesday nights from 7-8pm, even when the weather turns colder. Since many of our young people will be on computers all day for school, we are trying to facilitate a youth program that allows for in-person interaction while mitigating the risks. We’re going to meet in-person on Trinity Terrace dressed for the weather, with masks and social distancing. We’ll have a fire pit for each group to gather around to help everyone stay warm. During our meeting we will share our highs and lows from the week, read a Bible verse and discuss it, play some active games, and pray. If the weather is really terrible, we’ll meet online for a similar program via Zoom.
Instead of Sunday School, we will be offering small groups for families. We will provide playlists with resources on our website. Families will be able to sign up for a small group, and then set their own schedule for meeting together. We hope this will offer families an opportunity to stay connected with one another and continue to build the foundational relationships that are such an important part of our faith formation while our building remains closed.
Seekers is Grosse Pointe Memorial Church’s confirmation program. Seekers are students ninth grade and older who are seeking God and making a decision about joining the church as adult members. To give our students all of the benefits of this important milestone in their journey of faith, we have decided to delay the Seekers program for a year, so we will not meet in 2020. We are hoping that all our high school students who have not yet been confirmed will begin the Seekers program together in the fall of 2021.
Our high school mission trip is a life-changing chance to put faith into action through service in our community, country, and around the world. In 1 Peter 4:10-11, the Bible says that we should, “serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things.” – 1 Peter 4:8-11. We trust that God will give us gifts to share and strength to serve, so that we may glorify God through our mission.
