Help St. John Presbyterian Church Alleviate Hunger.
On Friday, April 16, from 9:00 am – noon, we will help the members of St John Presbyterian Church unload and unpack pallets of food from a Forgotten Harvest truck and put it in the cars of hungry people. We know that hunger is a bigger problem in the City of Detroit this year due to the economics of Covid-19. We know that Forgotten Harvest knows how to run pop-up food delivery points – and all the work is outside!
GPMC is delighted to volunteer monthly under the auspices of our Everyone Eats group. Everyone Eats provided the funding for a huge donation of perishables to supplement what Forgotten Harvest delivered. Some of our church members make a shopping run Friday morning to add meat/eggs/dairy to the FH deliverer items.
All the work is outside unless you want to help bag up some “extra” donations in their large Fellowship Hall during the “prep time” from 9-9:30. There are outdoor prep projects, too, so choose your own comfort level. Once we open for business, all work is outside. If you have extra plastic grocery bags, bring them, they are useful. So far we have been blessed with MOSTLY beautiful, sunny days. And whether or not we can promise that, our enthusiasm and energy bring the sunshine.
Wear masks, dress for the weather of the day, restrooms will be open at the church, bring your own water (and a snack if you need one). Plan to meet us at St. John’s PC; parking is available on site, 1961 E. Lafayette.
