Our Hunger Offering recipient this month is Make Food Not Waste.
They are known to us through their Upcycling Kitchen, located in the Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church, which makes use of all sorts of edible, nutritious foods that would otherwise have gone to waste.
This organization’s mission is to keep food out of landfills and slow climate change by creating lasting solutions to food waste through education, food upcycling and advocacy.
In January 2021, Make Food Not Waste began preparing free, weekly meals for the community in Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church. As a result of increased demand, the organization’s chefs began preparing meals at Jefferson Avenue AND the Salvation Army in 2022. All meals are made from nutritious surplus food that would otherwise go to waste from farms, farmers markets, restaurants, food distributors, and grocery stores.
Use the blue pew envelopes or send a check to the church this month noting “Make Food Not Waste” or “Hunger Offering” on the memo line.
