GPMC is fortunate for the opportunity to host a special recital by Argentine mezzo Daniela Mack. The rising mezzo–soprano has been hailed as “a purringly elegant BMW of a singer.” She will be in the Detroit area preparing for an April recital with Keun-A Lee at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and this will be their only performance in this area. Born in Buenos Aires and trained at San Francisco Opera Center, mezzo Daniela Mack lavishes the same effortless charisma and sable-colored instrument on music from Handel to contemporary. Her current season opened with a rare production of Rossini’s Otello, co-starring as Desdemona with tenor Lawrence Brownlee at Opera Philadelphia, and concludes as Frida Kahlo in the premiere at San Francisco Opera of Gabriela Lena Frank’s El Último sueño di Frida y Diego. Next season, she returns to New York’s Metropolitan Opera with a leading role in their powerful and passionate production of Golijov’s masterpiece, “Ainadamar.”
The March 15 program will include selections by Gioachino Rossini, Pauline Viardot, Reynaldo Hahn, Carlos Guastavino, Alberto Ginastera, and Astor Piazzola.
These programs are free of admission charge thanks to the generosity of our Music at Memorial benefactors.
