Ukraine Book Drive

You’re invited to visit the Ukrainian Refugee Book Drive photo exhibit at GPMC from Sunday, July 23 – Sunday, September 10.

The stories and photos highlighted are just a snapshot of the current Ukrainian refugee experience. We are grateful to the people who shared their personal photos and stories and to Natalia Bandalina, who brought this to our attention and is our connection to them.

The individuals featured within this exhibit are part of a larger refugee community currently living in Karben, Germany, where Natalia currently lives. At her last count, more than 300 refugees are taking shelter in Karben and more than 80% are women and children. The community is supported by the German government and the efforts of Evangelischen Gesamtkirchengemeinde: Karben, a protestant community comprised of churches in Burg-Gräfenrode, Groß-Karben (including Kloppenheim), Klein-Karben, Okarben, and Rendel.

This community faces many challenges…but one we can help with is acquiring books in Ukrainian for the children and their families. It will provide a sense of home in an uncertain world and maintain their connection to their native language, customs, and culture. Please consider a donation of any size … with your help we can purchase Ukrainian books for this community and keep their hope alive!

Donate now to help send Ukrainian books to the refugees in Karbon, Germany! Your gift, large or small, will make a difference to the refugee children and their families. Use the donation box in the library, or visit bit.ly/UBookDriveDonation to donate.
