Congratulations and Welcome!
At Grosse Pointe Memorial Church (GPMC), weddings are joyful occasions for the worship of God. Our church is open for GPMC member weddings only and the staff here are eager to help make your wedding a lovely and meaningful event.
If you are not a member, we invite you to visit our congregation and get to know us. Our new members range from young couples to senior singles and everyone in between. Please call our office: 313.882.5330 and speak with our new membership department to learn more about GPMC and to attend one of our new member meetings. We ask all new members to be with the church for at least six months and to also meet with the Pastor before setting a wedding date.
The Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) says the following about marriage and weddings in the church:
“In Baptism, each Christian is claimed in the covenant of God’s faithful love. Marriage is a gift God has given to all humankind for the well-being of the entire human family. Marriage involves a unique commitment between two people, traditionally a man and a woman, to love and support each other for the rest of their lives. The sacrificial love that unites the couple sustains them as faithful and responsible members of the church and the wider community. In civil law, marriage is a contract that recognizes the rights and obligations of the married couple in society. In the Reformed tradition, marriage is also a covenant in which God has an active part, and which the community of faith publicly witnesses and acknowledges.”
This statement about marriage includes same-sex couples and at GPMC the Session has approved same-sex weddings, with our first such wedding in 2015. Couples who are members of GPMC and wish to be married at the church should contact Donna Hartzell for wedding forms and to set up an interview with a pastor (who may or may not be officiating at the service). This meeting will be scheduled as an essential prerequisite to booking the wedding. That is, before your wedding will be put on the calendar you must meet with one of our pastors for approval.
We wish you every joy and blessing as you prepare for your wedding day and your future life together within the Christian community.
Blessings,
The Rev. Dr. Jeff Lincicome – Head of Staff & Pastor
