GPMC’s Hunger Offering recipient this month is Make Food Not Waste.
They are known to us through their Upcycling Kitchen, located at the Salvation Army, which makes use of all sorts of edible, nutritious foods that would otherwise have gone to waste.
In January 2021, Make Food Not Waste began preparing free, weekly meals for the community in Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church. As a result of increased demand, the organization’s chefs have moved their operations from Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church to the Salvation Army kitchen this January. Through a generous donation they will now have a freezer located at Jefferson Avenue Church in order to continue to provide meals to that community. All meals are made from nutritious surplus food that would otherwise go to waste from farms, farmers markets, restaurants, food distributors, and grocery stores.
Every dollar donated toward this month’s offering when you use the blue pew envelopes, give through the secure donation form, or by sending a check with “Make Food Not Waste” or “Hunger Offering” on the memo line will be matched up to $2,000 by the Outreach Council.
