Our church is delighted to welcome a friend to our congregation. In 2017 – 2020, more than 35 members of our church traveled to a small town called Cardenas, Cuba on four Adult Mission Trips. We were the guests of the John B. Hall Presbyterian Church, specifically the pastor, Alison Infante Zamora, and his family.
Because of their hospitality, we learned about a beautiful country that Americans rarely get to visit. With so many restrictions back in place, we jumped at the opportunity to bring a bit of Cuba to Grosse Pointe.
We have asked Alison to present information about his church, his town, and his country at:
- Middle Hour on Sunday, October 8 at 10:10 am
- Congregation Potluck and Slideshow on Sunday, October 8 from 6 – 8 pm. Register here!
The dinner will permit time for more questions you may have about a place very close physically, but very distant due to political differences. This is the only event with a sign up. Please also bring either a salad, side dish or dessert. The Outreach Council will provide the main course.
Who is Alison Infante?
The Rev. Alison Infante Zamora currently serves as moderator of the Synod of the Iglesia Presbiteriana-Reformada en Cuba (IPRC). His ministry experience includes various ecclesial and ecumenical responsibilities, such as chairing the IPRC’s Social Policy Study Commission and serving as moderator of the IPRC synod.
Alison is a pastor at the IPRC “Juan G. Hall” in Cárdenas, and, in his work, he emphasizes the social pastoral ministry as a way of proclaiming the Gospel. Under this premise, for example, the Azabache project, an antiracism and community empowerment project, exists at his church. This church also provides cultural spaces hosting tertulias — social and conversational gatherings — and an exhibition hall for art works, through which values such as respect, dialogue and aesthetic education are affirmed, especially for young artists from the community.
Alison is married to Sarahi Garcia Gomez. Sarahi has many roles in the church and the IPRC. Alison and Sarahi have two children, Ana Paulo and Joel David.
