April Hunger Offering

GPMC’s Hunger Offering recipient this month is Make Food Not Waste.

They are known to us through their Upcycling Kitchen, located in the Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church, which makes use of all sorts of edible, nutritious foods that would otherwise have gone to waste.

In January 2021, Make Food Not Waste began preparing free, weekly meals for the community in Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church. As a result of increased demand, the organization’s chefs began preparing meals at Jefferson Avenue and the Salvation Army in 2022. They have added Freedom House and the Detroit Boxing Gym youth program in 2023. All meals are made from nutritious surplus food that would otherwise go to waste from farms, farmers markets, restaurants, food distributors, and grocery stores.

Use the blue pew envelopes, give through the secure donation form, or send a check to the church this month noting “Make Food Not Waste” or “Hunger Offering” on the memo line. The Outreach Council will match congregation donations made this month up to $2,000.

Thank you for your support of GPMC’s Hunger Ministries.
