Stitch-A-Palooza, May 18

Grosse Pointe Memorial Church and Makers @ Memorial are hosting their 2nd Annual Stitch-A-Palooza this spring!

Join us for an all-day sewing extravaganza on Saturday, May 18, from 8:30 am – 4 pm. This free event will be filled with charity sewing, camaraderie, and chocolate.

Enjoy food and fellowship with old and new friends alike as we piece together quilts for charity groups in the metro Detroit area. Work on one of our kits, or bring your own charity project.

Take advantage of a free lecture presentation by Sarah Ruiz, a Nasa engineer by day and an award-winning quilter/designer after hours, in the morning, share in the exploration and creation of fabric postcards in the optional afternoon workshop, or just sit and sew. There is no wrong response.

Bring your own sandwich or order one from us – all other eats and treats will be provided.

10 am: Rockets to Rotary Cutters lecture by Sarah Ruiz

1 – 3 pm: Send a Little Love – An Exploration of Fabric Postcards (optional)

About Sarah Ruiz

Sarah Ruiz is a quilter and aerospace engineer from Houston, TX. Her creative and technical sides have always been intertwined, from drawing Disney characters and memorizing constellations as a kid to taking humans back to the moon and dreaming up new quilts today. Quilting perfectly combines her engineering and artistic mindsets, and she loves the puzzle-solving required to turn an idea into reality. Her quilts feature bright colors, bold lines, and graphic shapes that are easy to make but pack a visual punch.
